Arthritis is a painful condition that afflicts many people of all ages; you probably know someone who has it, or you may suffer from it yourself. You might not know, however, that there are actually a number of different kinds of arthritis. In fact, over 100 forms of the disease have been identified. They all have something in common, however. Arthritis is a cluster of conditions that attack and damage the body’s joints. Here we’ll take a look at three of the most common forms of the disease and how they can affect you.

The most prevalent type of arthritis is osteoarthritis, a degenerative joint condition that develops as a consequence of undue stress on the joints, an infection of the joints, or sometimes as a result of the normal aging process. Osteoarthritis impacts the joints by reducing the amount of cartilage in the bones. As it attacks the cartilage, the bones attempt to repair themselves. The bone then takes on a new shape and, throughout the process, a painful bone cyst is formed.

Osteoarthritis has a number of symptoms which you should be aware of. If you experience any sort of inflexibility when moving a joint and it results in pain, then you need to pay a visit to your health care provider as this could be an early indication of osteoarthritis. The joints which are most frequently attacked by osteoarthritis are the knees, hips, spine and fingers.

Rheumatoid arthritis is another form of the disease which results in serious inflammation of the joints. It sometimes attacks certain organs in the body as well, thus triggering your immune system to mistakenly attack its own tissue. The technical term for this form of disease is “autoimmune,” wherein antibodies in the blood target your own body. Typically, if your immune system attacks itself, inflammation takes place.

The primary indication of rheumatoid arthritis is swelling and irritation of at least one of your joints. Other warning signs include loss of appetite, tiredness, lack of energy, fever, and joint stiffness. Most people find that the stiffness is most noticeable during the early hours of the day. Joints can also become reddened and tender whenever symptoms flare up. Fortunately, even though rheumatoid arthritis is classified as a chronic disease, lots of people enjoy extended periods of time during which they have no uncomfortable symptoms.

Finally, there is psoriatic arthritis, generally referred to as psoriatic arthritis autoimmune disease (PSAAD). Its name comes from the skin condition known as psoriasis. Similar to rheumatoid arthritis, it is an autoimmune disease in which the body attacks itself; however, psoriatic arthritis attacks the skin in addition to the joints. The primary symptoms of this condition are inflamed and itchy patches on the skin. These patches sometimes become scaly or flaky. Psoriasis most frequently appears on the knees, elbows, genitals and scalp. Generally, people who experience joint inflammation together with psoriasis are diagnosed as suffering from psoriatic arthritis.

People generally think of arthritis as an “old person’s” disease. In reality anyone can be afflicted with this painful condition. In order to alleviate the pain associated with this disease, many people have turned to prescription or over the counter remedies. Unfortunately, the side effects from these remedies are often as bad as the pain from the arthritis itself. That may be why so many people are turning to safer, gentler arthritis home remedies.

While you should never just stop taking a prescription your doctor has given you without talking to him first, you may be able to combine some home remedies for arthritis along with your prescription. This might make it possible to cut back on the amount of pain relievers you have to take, thus diminishing many of the negative side effects. Following are some arthritis home remedies that many people have found to be quite useful.

Cod liver oil is a cheap and natural way of helping sufferers of rheumatoid arthritis, one of the most common forms of the condition. A recent study demonstrated that two teaspoons a day can cut the number of painkillers needed to ease the pain of arthritis. Many patients given the supplements were able to reduce their daily dose of anti-inflammatory drugs, some by more than 30 per cent.

Apple cider vinegar is another supplement that shows promise as a natural treatment for arthritis. It is believed that apple cider vinegar works because its high potassium content dissolves calcium deposits around the joints. Some experts recommend ingesting a combination of apple cider vinegar, honey and water, one to three times daily.

Flax seed oil is used by many as a natural cure for arthritis, particularly those who suffer from rheumatoid arthritis. Flax seed oil is high in omega 3 fatty acids, which can help ease the inflammation that leads to aches and pains in the joints.

Due to its anti inflammatory properties, regular use of aloe can help reduce the painful swelling of arthritis. There is evidence that aloe vera can repair damaged tissue in the joints through the regeneration of cells. You can massage aloe vera gel or cream onto the affected area, or you can drink some aloe vera juice.

Another home remedy for arthritis you might want to explore is a combination of grape juice and pectin. Grape juice is loaded with antioxidants, and pectin (a thickening agent used for preserves) seems to help relieve inflammation in the joints.

Something as simple as using a heating pad when you are sitting at your computer or watching TV might offer you a lot of relief for your swollen and achy joints. Also make sure you keep your home comfortably heated during the winter months so you don’t get cold.

Many people have reported that having a nice long soak in a tub full of warm water has helped them find some pain relief too. Another benefit is that this can help relax you which is something very precious when you are living with such a painful condition.

Another tip that may help is to use warm olive oil and massage it into your sore joints. No need to stop at just your joints either; massage the tendons leading to your joints. For example, if your knees are sore, massage a little up your thighs too. While it may not smell that great, many people have reported getting relief by massaging with warm vinegar.

Ice and heat and also effective natural remedies for this condition. The general rule of thumb is to apply ice before the joints are swollen. If they are already inflamed you should only apply heat. If you get to them before they are swollen ice can work very effectively. Generally if any treatment hurts you should stop.

Using a cream or ointment specifically created to ease joint pain can help provide relief overnight. Apply the cream at bedtime and you may have a less painful time sleeping, which means you’ll actually be rested the next day.

As difficult as it may be to do, most doctors recommend that you try to stay active. The more you work your joints the looser you’ll be able to keep them. Try low impact activities such as yoga or swimming. These exercises are a great way to stay in shape and keep your joints limber and they won’t stress your joints further since they have virtually no impact on them.

You don’t have to resign yourself to suffering with arthritis pain, or rely solely on prescription or over the counter products. There are many simple yet highly effective arthritis home remedies. As with anything, some natural cures will work better for some people than others so it’s really just a matter of finding the best combination of treatments for you.

Seventy percent of Americans are obese, and obesity is the most common reason why people develop osteoarthritis. We all know the value of following a balanced, nutritious diet, as this is the best means to keep your body healthy and free from disease. Therefore, if you suffer from this form of arthritis, it makes sense to follow a diet which will help you to lose weight and in the process ease much of the pressure on your hips and knees, which are the two parts of the body that are most likely to be affected by osteoarthritis. Including certain foods and supplements in your diet is also a great way to relieve the inflammation and help your body’s tissue to mend.

Some people with osteoarthritis will benefit from eating an anti-inflammatory style of diet. Although osteoarthritis is generally not considered to be an inflammatory form of the disease, there is a certain amount of inflammation involved in it. Here’s what you should eat and avoid if you’re going to adopt this style of eating:

Choose whole, natural foods as much as possible and avoid processed food products.

Consume whole grains such as wheat, barley, oats, brown rice, and millet.

Omega-3 fatty acids are useful for reducing inflammation. You can find them in many nuts and seeds, as well as in certain kinds of fish such as herring, salmon, sardines, and tuna.

Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant that helps to minimize damage to the tissues. It can be found in corn, beef, egg yolks, nuts, wheat germ and sunflower oil. Antioxidants are useful for reducing the quantity of cytokines in your bloodstream, which help to ease the pain of inflammation.

Vitamin C is another important antioxidant that can be found in melons, citrus fruits, kiwi fruits, pineapple, blueberries and strawberries. In fact, you should eat a wide variety of fruits and vegetables to get as many different vitamins as possible.

Other foods you should try to include in your diet include seaweed, soy, spirulina, and sprouts.

Restrict your use of partially hydrogenated oils and polyunsaturated vegetable oils.

Avoid alcohol, coffee, and sugar.

Some experts advise that you remove all inflammatory foods from your diet, including dairy products, wheat, and nightshade plants (eggplant, peppers, potatoes, and tomatoes) for a period of a month. If you find that your condition has improved, slowly reintroduce them one at a time so you can establish which particular foods are aggravating your condition.

You may also wish to consider taking certain nutritional supplements to enhance the effects of your new style of eating. These include Vitamins C, D and E, selenium, zinc, and copper. Fish oils, turmeric and ginger are other good choices.

Occasional fasting might also be of benefit. Fasting improves the cleansing and elimination abilities of the kidneys, liver, lungs, and skin. It also calms the digestive system and helps it function more effectively.

With the right diet, many people who suffer from the pain of osteoarthritis are able to see a significant improvement in their condition. Be sure to discuss any changes to your eating habits and any supplements you plan to take with your doctor before proceeding.

The best way to go about getting effective osteoarthritis treatment is to enter into a partnership with your physician. After diagnosing your condition, he or she will recommend suitable treatment options that will ensure that the osteoarthritis treatment addresses your personal requirements and also provides proper relief from a medical standpoint. The fact of the matter is that a number of factors will affect which osteoarthritis treatment will work best for you including factors such as cardiac diseases and hypertension as too peptic ulcers and even renal disease.

The most common osteoarthritis treatment option is to use pain killers and even undergo physiotherapy. In addition, you can try exercising and even create suitable diet. Ideally, a physician should advice you regarding undergoing physiotherapy and also which diet is most effective in curing your problem. In addition, a physiotherapist can also suggest that you make use of specific aids and even appliances that can be used at home and even at the workplace. You could for example use walking canes and install rails at your bathing place and you should also make use of walking crutches.

Another osteoarthritis treatment option that works well is controlling your weight. It is well known that obesity can increase the risk of developing osteoarthritis since there is too much pressure on the knees and hips of an obese person. In fact, women that are obese are most likely to suffer from hip osteoarthritis and so losing weight is in fact a very useful and effective osteoarthritis treatment option.

A physician too can recommend that for proper osteoarthritis treatment you should first undertake doing certain kinds of activities including swimming and walking and even aerobics which will help to slow down the progress of your osteoarthritis condition.

You can even try medicating yourself and this in fact is an effective osteoarthritis treatment option that provides much relief from the swelling and pain. Applying a hot water bottle helps as too does using electric heating pads and even rubbing of ointments can prove to be effective. There are also folk osteoarthritis treatment options available including taking a mud bath or wearing bracelets made from copper and in addition you can also take herbal medications.

As mentioned, earlier obesity is a major reason why people develop an osteoarthritis condition and one treatment option in this regard is to switch to using special osteoarthritis diet. It is well known that the proper diet can and will help you stay in perfect shape and in addition it helps ensure that your body does not easily fall prey to disease.

Juvenile rheumatoid arthritis is a form of arthritis in children that may be similar to that of adults. The condition has many different symptoms that go with whatever type of juvenile arthritis may plague the child. Juvenile rheumatoid arthritis treatment choices are highly similar to each other. Before any form of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis treatment is started on the child, he or she must undergo the proper diagnosis with a licensed and certified medical doctor. This is because some of the various juvenile rheumatoid arthritis treatment options may need the expertise of qualified people.

For children who need a battery of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis treatments due to the severe effects of the disease, there are pulmonologists, dermatologists, cardiologist and other specialists who can address the symptoms that often occur with the condition. Juvenile rheumatoid arthritis support groups offer a variety of information and options for parents to explore.

Medication is almost always the first line of defense in keeping juvenile rheumatoid arthritis in check. Pain relievers and anti inflammatory medicines are very good at controlling and managing the many symptoms that come with the condition. These medications, especially the anti-inflammatory ones, are necessary to prevent the inflammation from getting worse and ending up damaging the joints. Juvenile rheumatoid arthritis treatment does not end with this. Many experts encourage and recommend the combination medication with physical therapy in order to combat the effects of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis early on.

Physical therapy is another juvenile rheumatoid arthritis treatment option which is often done in tandem with therapy. Therapy helps the child gain back mobility in joints which have stiffened up or have become deformed with the disease. It is not only physical therapy programs that will benefit a child but also ordinary activities including playing and games which can be included as juvenile rheumatoid arthritis relief. The more active the child, the less likely the disease will rear its ugly head.

Along with physical therapy, the child should also have the right diet in order to gain weight. Many children who suffer from this condition have poor appetites and need to be encouraged to eat more of the healthy food that is necessary for their health. There are some vitamins that can help to balance out the nutrition of the child for better eating habits. This may not be a juvenile rheumatoid arthritis treatment but it helps with the treatments that doctors might recommend.

To date, a reactive arthritis cure has not yet been found. This is not because of any lack of application or research but because there is a lot more that needs to be done. Until such time as the real cause for reactive arthritis has been found it will mean that patients of reactive arthritis have to use different kinds of treatment options. At present, research is being conducted in trying to establish a plausible reason why certain kinds of infections are so closely related to reactive arthritis.

It is the earnest endeavor of the medical community to find out why does infections trigger reactive arthritis and also why is that not everyone that has an infection develops reactive arthritis. And, of course it is also necessary to find out more about the role that the gene HLA –B27 plays in regard to developing reactive arthritis.

There is also need for more research regarding finding a reactive arthritis cure and in particular in finding out the exact location of the bacteria that trigger a bout of reactive arthritis. It has for long been suspected that once the bacteria enter the human body it can travel to the joints where they may remain for indefinite periods of time in small quantities.

Lastly, there is also need to conduct further research and to test various combinations that when used can actually help unearth the cure for reactive arthritis. This kind of research effort might hopefully provide clues that can help find the reactive arthritis cure that till now has eluded us. It is in fact necessary, in this regard, to test the proper use of antibiotics that along with TNF inhibitors and along with immuno-suppressants such as methotrexate and even sufasalazine help find a reactive arthritis cure.

It is also certainly very necessary that the medical community be able to establish the real causes of reactive arthritis which will then make the task of discovering the right reactive arthritis cure that must easier. In particular, it is necessary to look closely at the relationship between the gene HLA B27 and reactive arthritis. There no doubts the fact that as high as an estimated eighty percent of people that have suffered from reactive arthritis will also test positive for the HLA B27 gene. So, closer study of this gene too might help in finding the cure for reactive arthritis.

Reactive rheumatoid arthritis can prove to be very painful for some patients that have to suffer a combination of these two forms of arthritis. The pain can be very sudden and also very fierce and it certainly will make the patient’s life very uncomfortable and distressing.

Juvenile rheumatoid arthritis is a childhood condition that generally affects children prone to this sickness around the age of six months to sixteen years of age. Help and support are necessary in order to cope with this condition. Juvenile rheumatoid arthritis support groups are boons to parents and children alike who need to understand the condition better. Juvenile rheumatoid arthritis support groups handle a lot of cases of this type and the many variations that come with it.

The condition is somewhat mystifying in the sense that there is no concrete cause that has been identified as of this day. The condition results in the immune system going haywire and believing that there are enemy cells in the body, thus it releases chemicals to combat these so called enemies. This results in inflammation and pain in some joints of the child’s body.

Information is one of the many advantages of getting in touch with a local or national juvenile rheumatoid arthritis group. Many of these groups have links to organizations and sources that have research programs that study juvenile rheumatoid arthritis as well as other forms of arthritis. This means that any new and important information may be available through the juvenile rheumatoid arthritis support group. The information may be concerning any new developments of the disease or even new developments regarding earlier and proper juvenile rheumatoid arthritis diagnosis. Other essential news may also concern the development of new drugs and methods for children to cope with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis.

One other advantage of getting in touch with a juvenile rheumatoid arthritis support group is the actual support that the people in the group can lend the child and the parents. Members of a juvenile rheumatoid arthritis support group are usually people and individuals who have ad first hand experience with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. This means that these people can lend their knowledge regarding the many methods that they may have used to manage and control the disease as well as share their feelings with new members of the juvenile rheumatoid arthritis support group. Not all of the people in a juvenile rheumatoid arthritis support group may have had the condition. Some people who work in such groups have friends or family members whom they helped through the disease.

The advantages of joining a juvenile rheumatoid arthritis support group certainly help to ease the tension that some parents feel. Children also feel less alone knowing that there are others like them who are going through what they are going through.

Most people already know that osteoarthritis is a very common kind of arthritis condition and it is also common knowledge that osteoarthritis affects the elderly the most. The main reason why people suffer from osteoarthritis is that there is wear and tear and deterioration of the cartilage that protects the bones and keeps them from rubbing against one another. This cartilage also keeps the stress on the joints to a minimum and so whenever there is damage to the cartilage there is greater likelihood that osteoarthritis symptoms will occur.

However, osteoarthritis symptoms are known to vary from individual to individual and what’s more, osteoarthritis is a progressive disease which means that with passage of time the osteoarthritis symptoms will get worse. Sometimes, osteoarthritis symptoms can cause incapacitation of the patient though in most cases this will not happen.

The most common of all osteoarthritis symptoms is pain that will continue to trouble the patient even when they are at rest. Other common osteoarthritis symptoms include body growths which normally are experienced around the joints and which cause atypical angulations. In addition, other common osteoarthritis symptoms include joints snapping off and immobility as well as stiffness as well as swelling of the joints.

In case you notice osteoarthritis symptoms occurring in your knee then you will find that the shape and appearance of your knees will begin to change – perhaps even causing you to become knock-kneed. And, if you do not move your affected knee often enough you risk the knees becoming weak and in a few instances the knees might also shrink.

Sometimes, osteoarthritis symptoms occur around a person’s hips and this causes much pain and can lead to the patient developing a limp. In addition, when this happens it is also common to experience pain around the groin area and even in the inner thighs. When the osteoarthritis symptoms affect the hip they can also make the affected leg appear to be a bit shorter.

Hip osteoarthritis is a condition that can affect either gender in equal measure. The reasons for the onset of this problem are many and include a person’s age and whether or not they are obese. In addition, the problem also occurs on account of congenital deformity. Hip osteoarthritis may be the result of injuries and stress. What’s more, once the symptoms of hip osteoarthritis develop there is little that can be done to reverse the effects of the condition.

Osteoarthritis can severely impact a person’s joints and more particularly the hips and the knees. Hips have to bear most of a person’s body weight and with the passage of time there is bound to be deterioration of the smooth and shiny articular cartilage that ensures that the hip joints can function smoothly and without feeling any pain. When the articular cartilage deteriorates it leads to discomfort as well as stiffness in the joints and buttocks and even the thighs and all this discomfort only worsens when you move. This discomfort occurs on account of inflammation to the joints in the hip region which then leads to reduction in the joints’ ability to rotate and it also hampers their flexibility as well as movement.

Once you are struck down with hip osteoarthritis you will then certainly find it necessary to get continuous treatment which will help in reducing the discomfort. Getting early treatment also helps and in addition it is necessary that you consult your doctor in order to ascertain the true extent of damage and which the best treatment option is.

Doctors generally make use of X-rays to find out whether any changes have taken place in the hip region and in addition they use the X-rays to find out what other abnormalities have occurred. Women are very susceptible to developing hip osteoarthritis and the simplest thing they can do to get arthritis relief is to use a cane or other form of support and in addition they must also cut down on household chores which would otherwise exacerbate the condition.

When the hip osteoarthritis condition advances it can turn out to be very serious and when this occurs then the only solution is to undergo hip replacement surgery and even arthoplasty which can provide much relief from the pain and which also helps in improving mobility.

Osteoarthritis treatment is something that should be likened to a joint venture between the doctor and the patient. An ideal treatment solution is one in which the physician takes into account the personal needs of the patient and who also proposes a treatment that is most likely to alleviate the medical symptoms.
